Kathleen and Dustin Love
of Birmingham Alabama
~ Opening Words ~

“Happy Valentines Day! And welcome to the Empire State Building. Your letter
was the only one chosen where the couple had not actually been here before. Yet
there was such a tone of romance and spontaneity, adventure and perseverance…
you seem to embody the best of what this place and this city have to offer. It was
one year ago to the day that Dustin made his “truly magical proposal” amid that
incredibly beautiful snow storm that kept you hold up in your hotel with
champagne, roses and soft music. It was the night that Kathleen made him the
happiest man in the world by saying yes. Even though you didn’t make it that day,
I suspect that you knew you would return here sometime, and that the view you
would share from the top would be as limitless as you love for one another and all
the possibilities that your future holds.. There was a very famous movie called “An
Affair to Remember” that began the tradition of getting married at the top of the
Empire State building on Valentines Day. It called this place “the nearest thing to
Heaven we have in New York“. Today we happily take second place on that, to
the feeling you have in your hearts and have found in one another’s arms. We are
honored that this place will forever hold such special memories for you and it is our
pleasure to have you back here today to make the promise of a lifetime shared.”

~ Declaration of Intent ~

“A wedding is more than a celebration of the Love that lives in our Bride and
Groom’s hearts today. It reaches into the future and proclaims their intentions for
that which all of their tomorrows shall hold. A couple who wed are joined by the
mutual affection and love that they share, by their hopes, dreams and promises of
what will be, and by their firm resolve that come what may, they shall remain
together through time. Yet very little is said as to how they are to do this, and of
how as the years pass they shall remain close to one another in spirit. It is with this
in mind that I will begin by asking you to make your promises together….

Do you pledge to one another your openness and honesty, That the love for one
another shall be in the foreground of your thoughts always, guiding your actions,
and that you shall leave no parts of self unknowable to one another?”

Kathleen and Dustin: “We do.”

“Do you pledge to continue to love one another wholly and fearlessly, that you will
share each other’s laughter, and work together to spark creativity and inspire
passion in all aspects of your life together?”

Kathleen and Dustin: “We do.”

“Do you pledge that you will always be there to comfort, soothe, and heal one
another, And that you will stand together when the future is unclear, proving that
times may change but your love is constant?”

Kathleen and Dustin: “We do.”

“Do you pledge to one another a stable home, a place of warmth and welcome,
that will always be a safe haven and sanctuary to body, mind, and spirit, a place
that will sustain and nourish your roots as you grow into all that is and shall be your
life together?”

Kathleen and Dustin: “We do.”

“May the promises you make this day lead to the fulfillment of your dreams.”
